D.R. Horton and Meritage Homes Acquire Lots in SunCal’s Summerwind Trails Master-Planned Community in Southern California

Brings to Three the Total Number of Homebuilders in New Development

CALIMESA, CALIF., (Oct. 1, 2018) – SunCal, one of the largest real estate development companies in the U.S. that specializes in large-scale, mixed-use master-planned communities, has completed the sale of 262 residential lots within its Summerwind Trails community in Calimesa, Calif., to homebuilders D.R. Horton and Meritage Homes. They are the second and third builders to become part of the new community, joining Lennar which acquired the first available lots earlier this year.

D.R. Horton’s acquisition consists of 182 lots; 121 in a neighborhood under their Freedom Homes active adult brand and another 41 under their Express Homes designed for first-time homebuyers. Meritage Homes acquired a total of 80 lots. Summerwind Trails is located on the west side of Calimesa along Interstate 10 in the San Gorgonio Pass area of Riverside County.

Summerwind Trails is a 2,590-acre master-planned community that is close to some of the best recreational opportunities in Southern California, including summer and winter activities in nearby mountain ranges, golf courses, shopping and dining, and close proximity to desert resorts. It is planned for more than 3,600 homes, many with view lots; preservation of over 1,400 acres of open space and wildlife corridors, three future on-site schools, 80 acres of parks, over 20 miles of multipurpose trails, the exclusive use of recycled water for all landscape irrigation and a future 260-acre town center that will include commercial and business park development.
